How to add tax on your invoice

With Conta, you can easily invoice with tax. Tax on invoices is called consumption tax. This is how to add consumption tax on your invoice.

Do I have to add tax? 

If you’re registered for consumption tax in your country, you should add tax to your invoice. 

Whether or not you need to register for consumption tax, depends on how much you’re earning. The threshold to register varies from country to country, so you should check what applies to you.  

Once you’re registered for consumption tax, you should invoice with tax. Read more about what to do about tax on your invoice.

This also means that if you’re not registered for consumption tax, you should turn the tax toggle off:

You’ll then create what’s called a regular invoice, rather than a tax invoice.

How much tax should I add?

Which tax code you should choose depends on what you’re selling. In some countries most products and services have the same rate, but in others it varies from product to product. Some items are even exempt from consumption tax. We recommend reaching out to a tax specialist, if you have questions about which tax codes to use.
